Holiday Homes and Apartments Aeolian Islands - KarHouse Milazzo

Lipari positions itself as the undisputed queen of the archipelago, long renowned for its obsidian and pumice treasures. It shines as the most densely inhabited island of the archipelago, huddling at the foot of the majestic Castle rock, once an ancient Greek acropolis, and touching with its dense inlets, both to the north and south, the fascinating Marina Corta and Marina Lunga. Lipari, the island of the "islands of the wind", stands out for offering a myriad of attractions and leisure opportunities among all the Aeolian Islands. But its main jewel is, without a doubt, its beaches which blend harmoniously with the surrounding natural wonders. An oasis of tranquility that also invites you to explore the paths that cross the landscape, offering a metamorphosis from the suggestive Mediterranean scrub to the wild areas, where rocks and volcanic debris mix in an explosion of charm.

In the name of aquatic adventures and excursions, but in the charming town of Lipari you can also discover buildings, monuments and a rich historical heritage. Are you wondering what to do and admire in Lipari? You can visit the panoramic Belvedere Quattrocchi, the majestic castle, the majestic Cathedral and much more. Without forgetting, of course, the delicious dishes and typical cuisine, which represent true hidden gems among the culinary treasures of Sicily. An unmissable stop to enjoy breathtaking views is the suggestive Belvedere di Quattrocchi, located just four kilometers from the center of Lipari. From here, you can clearly admire the island of Vulcano with its crater fumaroles. Just 3 kilometers from the city center, in the picturesque bay of Canneto, there is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, which alternate between pebbles and black sand. Along the seafront there is no shortage of inviting clubs and bars. In the Acquacalda area, on the northern coast of the island, a white pumice mountain rises which dominates the surrounding landscape.

The pumice and obsidian quarries found in this area are a unique treasure in Europe, second only to those of Türkiye. The Castle of Lipari, imposing on its cliff 50 meters above the sea, boasts a history that begins in 4000 BC. Archaeological evidence well preserved over time testifies to the dominations that have occurred in the area of the castle. Also note the fascinating presence of the Hellenic Tower.

This is not simply a castle, but a place of great historical and artistic value, which enchants with its numerous attractions:
– The Bronze Age huts, which take us back to the past
– The magnificent Cathedral of San Bartolomeo, which represents the most important building on the entire island of Lipari. Dating back to the 16th century, its architecture is adorned with splendid floral decorations that testify to the skill of the artists of the time.
– The “Bernabò Brea” Aeolian Museum, a true pride for the local population. This archaeological museum is divided into six exceptional sections: prehistory, epigraphy, classical history, smaller islands, volcanology and paleontology.

You will experience a true journey through time, immersing yourself in the fascinating history of Lipari and appreciating the wonders this ancient island has to offer.

The magnificent Norman Cloister, which dates back to 1083 and was commissioned by Roger II, is an architectural jewel that skilfully blends elements of ancient Rome. The capitals and other materials used are decorated with fascinating depictions of animals and mythological creatures.

Once you have crossed its majestic front door, you will find yourself immersed in a real mix of stylists: a short gallery in Neo-Gothic style, a fortification that dates back to the late Roman era and an imposing door, surmounted by the coat of arms with the eagle, symbol of the Bourbons. Inside the castle complex, you can discover various religious structures, including the marvelous church of Santa Caterina (dated 16th-18th century), now disused, and the suggestive Church of Addolorata, dating back to the 16th century, which boasts a Baroque style facade.

Near the church of Santa Caterina, you can observe the extraordinary excavations which show the remains of the huts dating back to the Bronze Age, together with a part of the ancient urban layout from the Greco-Roman era.
